Microsoft 365: Request Files from Clients
OneDrive offers a convenient feature to request files from clients. This tool is especially useful when you need to receive a large number of files or large-sized documents that are not feasible to transmit via email.
Requesting Files via OneDrive Online
- Click the blue cloud icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen and select 'View online'.
- Go to 'My files', select 'New', then choose 'Folder' to create a new folder where the files will be uploaded.
- Right-click on the newly created folder and select "Request files".
- You will be prompted to name the request. Enter a relevant name that will be identifiable to your client.
- After naming and pressing 'Next', a link will be generated. Copy this link and include it in an email to your client.
Requesting Files via File Explorer
- Ensure the folder intended for file collection is synced to your local OneDrive folder in File Explorer.
- Since the 'Request files' feature is currently only available through the OneDrive web interface, right-click on the synced folder in File Explorer and choose 'View online'.
- Once in the web interface, right-click on the folder and select "Request files", then proceed as described in the online steps.
Viewing Shared Items
- In OneDrive, go to 'Shared' on the top left-hand side menu.
- This section provides a list of 'Shared with you' and 'Shared by you', allowing you to track shared folders and files.
Key Considerations
- Clear Communication: When sending the link to your client, provide clear instructions on how to upload files.
- Monitor Uploads: Regularly check the folder to see if your client has uploaded the requested files.
- Security: Ensure that the shared folder is secure and only accessible to intended recipients.
