Microsoft 365: Setting the Default Printer

Follow the detailed instructions below to set your default printer:

  1. Access Printers & Scanners Settings: Start by clicking the Windows button. In the search bar, type “printer” and select “Printers & scanners” from the search results. This is where you can manage all your printer settings.

  2. Disable Automatic Printer Management: Within the “Printers & scanners” section, find the option "Let Windows manage my default printer". Uncheck this box to enable manual selection of your default printer.

  3. Select Your Preferred Printer: From the list of available printers, identify and click on the printer you wish to set as your default. After selecting it, click on "Manage" to access its specific settings.

  4. Set as Default: In the management settings of your chosen printer, look for and click on "Set as default". This action will set the selected printer as the default printer for all your printing needs.

  5. Confirmation: Once you have set your printer as default, it’s good practice to double-check by revisiting the “Printers & scanners” settings to ensure your preferences are saved correctly.

Additional Tips

  • Regular Checks: Occasionally, system updates or changes can alter your default printer settings. It’s a good idea to regularly check these settings to ensure your preferred printer remains as the default.
