Key Points

Backup of Your Cloud PC: Your Desktop, Documents and Picture folders are backed up to your One Drive account.

Downloads Folder and Recycle Bin: By default, files older than 30 days will be deleted. Your firm can request a firm wide change to this setting.

Nightly Reboot at 3am: To prevent loss of work ensure you save files and log out each night.

Detailed Process

1. PC Backup

The following folders on your Cloud PC will be backed up to One Drive:

Desktop – contains all files on your desktop.

Documents – contains all files from your Documents folder.

Pictures – contains all files from your pictures folder.

Please note that no other files on your PC are backed up. Please ensure all required files are saved to either your Desktop, Documents or Pictures folders.

2. Downloads Folder & Recycle Bin

As a part of the systems maintenance routines, a process is run that:

Deletes any files in the recycle bin that are older than 30 days.

Deletes any files in your downloads folder if they have not been opened for more than 30 days.

If you require documents that are stored in your Downloads folder we recommend moving them to your document management system or One Drive.

Only files stored on your Cloud PC are moved into the recycle bin. If you delete a file from a shared drive it will not be available in your Recycle Bin. Files deleted from your Desktop, Documents or Pictures folders are available in the One Drive recycle bin.

3. Nightly reboot at 3:00am

The system is configured to reboot each night at 3:00am.

To prevent loss of work, we recommend that you log off your system each night.

Logging off the system is different to closing the Cloud PC window by clicking the X button.

Clicking the X button to close the window is equivalent to turning the monitor off. The system is still logged in and running. When you re-connect to the system you are just turning the monitor back on – all the programs that you had open will still be open and in the same position.

Use the Cloud PC X button if you are planning to return later in the day (from either the same PC or a different PC). If you forget to log off later that night it is possible that you might lose work, for example, on an open Word document.
